Appreciating the Sierra Foothills this time of year

There’s something about this time of year in the Sierra Foothills that’s hard to explain if you haven’t experienced it.

Everything feels a little more alive.

The hills are green, the lakes are becoming full, and you start noticing things you might’ve missed earlier in the year… the way the light hits the water, the quiet in the trees, the movement along the shoreline.

It’s easy to forget how much we have right here.

The Water

Places like Scotts Flat Lake, Rollins Lake, and Bullards Bar aren’t just “places to go”, they’re part of what makes this area feel the way it does.

Each one has its own rhythm.

Scotts Flat in the morning, when the water is still and glassy.
Rollins on a warm afternoon, spread out and full of little corners to explore.
Bullards Bar, is more of an intentional visit, feeling quieter and more remote.

Even stretches of the Truckee & South Yuba River, with its steady flow and cool water, remind you how connected everything is up here.

The Wildlife

If you spend enough time near the water, you start to notice who else is out there.

Birds skimming the surface early in the morning.
Fish moving just below the waterline.
The occasional deer along the shoreline.

It’s subtle, but it’s constant.

You’re never really out there alone… you’re just part of what’s already happening.

The Pace

One of the best parts about being here is that things don’t need to be rushed.

You don’t have to pack the day full or try to hit every spot.

You can sit for a while.
Float.
Paddle a little.
Stay longer than you meant to.

That slower pace is part of what makes the experience feel different.

Getting Out There

You don’t need much to enjoy it.

A towel, some water, maybe a snack, and if you feel like getting out on the lake, a kayak or paddle board goes a long way.

Our inflatable kayaks and paddle boards are designed for exactly this kind of day. Easy to transport, quick to set up, and perfect for exploring without overcomplicating things.

A Good Reminder

It’s easy to look past what’s close to home or assume you’ll get to it later.

But this area of Grass Valley, Nevada City, the lakes, the rivers… it’s truly something special.

If you’ve been meaning to get outside, THIS is your sign.

See You here, soon

Whether it’s your first time at one of these lakes or your hundredth, it never really gets old.

We’re so incredibly lucky to have it and to share it!
